We are looking for folks to help at the polls on Election Day.

Absentee Ballots & Early Voting

The Vermont Secretary of State’s office has absentee ballots to all registered voters in Vermont for the Nov. 5 general election. The reason is to make sure that all registered voters get the chance to vote.

BUT!
You are still able to vote WHEN you want and HOW you want.

Below is some basic information about absentee ballots and some common scenarios for voters.

Absentee ballots were mailed between
September 27 - October 1.

  • If you DID NOT request an absentee ballot, it was mailed to the address the Elections Division has on file for you.
(This is probably the address on your Vermont driver’s license, unless you have a PO box.)

  • If you DID request an absentee ballot, it was mailed to the address you provided when you made your request.

If you have not received an absentee ballot, contact the Town Office at (802) 897-5841, by email, or through this online form.

Choose When and How You Vote

(and what to do with your absentee ballot)

I want to vote in person on (or before) Election Day.

Just bring the blank absentee ballot and envelopes to the Town Office when you come in to vote. A poll worker will collect them, check you in, and you're off to the races.

If you don't bring the absentee ballot with you, that's okay too. When you come to vote, you'll complete an Affidavit of No Ballot Cast. By signing this, you are legally attesting that you have not already voted with your absentee ballot.

I want to vote with an absentee ballot.

When you get your absentee ballot in the mail, fill out both sides with black pen. Put the absentee ballot in the Voted Ballot Envelope (the smallest one) and fill out the front. This envelope goes in the Return Envelope. Postage is already paid, so drop it in the mail or in the secure drop box outside of the Town Office.

I want to vote with an absentee ballot...but I need it sent somewhere other than my Shoreham address.

Contact the Town Office. You'll complete an Affidavit of No Ballot Cast (see above), and we'll send a new absentee ballot to the address you want. Please do this as soon as possible to avoid mail delays!

Fill out the absentee ballot as above and envelopes as described above. Pop these in the Return Envelope and mail it back - postage is prepaid.
